English World Secondary Levels

The Workbook offers extended practice to accompany the Student's Book and contains the Workbook CD-ROM.

Each unit has 10 pages of tasks and exercises for independent work to extend and consolidate the learning in the Student's Book. Two pages of revision exercises appear after every other unit, giving practice of work covered in the two preceding units. A wordlist contains key words from the reading texts, vocabulary pages and spelling for each unit.

The English World Teacher's Guides offer suggested warm-up activities for every lesson, clear notes to guide the teacher through the different activities, audioscripts for listening comprehension activities, answers to Workbook activities, suggestions for questions to ask at different points and links to more help with methodology.

The Teacher's Digibook offers additional digital tools for the classroom and training material for teachers. It adds an exciting dimension to classroom teaching, and helps the teacher prepare customised materials.

The Student's Book develops language skills through the exploration of real-world topics and develops critical thinking and independent learning. Cross-curricular and cross-cultural content means that students learn about the world through English while acquiring social values and citizenship awareness. Comprehension activities place an emphasis on students' personal responses.

The Exam Practice Book is designed to help with self-assessment and exam skills. All four skills and use of English are examined after every second unit. The format follows the task types that students will encounter in external exams while reflecting the material presented in the Student's Books, so that students can check how well they have absorbed the vocabulary they have been using.

There are two longer papers: one that may be taken halfway through the year and the other for the end of the year. Progress charts at the end of the book allow students, teachers and parents to check where progress has been made in each of the skills, and important tips are presented on how to study and prepare for exams.

A course-specific dictionary for level 7 facilitates the transition from primary into secondary education, and contains new words which did not appear in the primary levels of English World. New vocabulary comes from the reading texts, the Grammar in use dialogues and the Writing pages.

In addition, the dictionary contains all the vocabulary from English World Levels 1-6 to give practice in using a full dictionary with all entries listed alphabetically and to allow students to check words they have seen before but may have forgotten.
