We know that it’s not always easy to get students to talk in English.

Students need a reason to talk in an unfamiliar language, and they want to feel supported when they try. That’s why we created the award-winning Bookworms Club series to support Reading Circles.

Your students will want to discuss the thought-provoking stories in Bookworms Club. And the supportive preparation resources, the role sheets in particular, will help them to feel confident about doing so in English.

It’s really quite simple, but the results are magical.

What are Reading Circles? They are small groups of students who meet in the classroom to talk about a story they are reading in English.

Each student is given a different role in the discussion: Discussion Leader, Summarizer, Culture Collector, Word Master, Passage Person, or Connector.

To prepare for the discussion, students read a story and complete their specific role sheet. This makes it easier for them to take part in the conversation because it provides a framework for a real, natural discussion in English.

Of course, a good story is at the heart of every successful Reading Circle, and Bookworms Club provides students with short stories that have been specially selected to encourage conversation. All of the stories come from the acclaimed Oxford Bookworms Library, so you can be sure that the grading and storytelling is first-rate.

An excellent story combined with the Reading Circle roles – it’s what makes Bookworms Club a winning formula for getting students to talk in English.

“Bookworms Club gives students a reason to communicate, which is what many teachers are looking for.”
