Jen invites her friends to stay the weekend in her parents' ski cabin in the mountains. Joey persuades her sister to give her time off from helping in the family restaurant. Dawson realises the depth of feelings he has for Joey, but cannot resist Jen.

Summer vacation. Dawson pursues his amateur film career with the reluctant help of Joey and Pacey. Jen enrols in lifeguarding classes and Pacey joins her, thinking that this will be an excellent way to meet girls as he is on the rebound from an illicit affair.
