Příklad:

Petr řekl Aleně: „Neboj se, budu tam včas“. / „Don't worry, I will be there on time.“

Alena si pak na něj stěžovala: „He said he would be there on time.“ (will se změní na would)

V češtině by tato věta vypadala takto: „Řekl, že tam bude včas.“
